Wife of resident of Ingushetia, who died at police station, states torture

After the death of Magomed Daliev at the police station, his wife Marem Tochieva was beaten up and tortured by power agents, Sirazhdin Sultygov, an activist of the public movement "Mekhk-Kkhel", said referring to relatives of the spouses.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 16, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Ingushetia reported that the 50-year-old Daliev, suspected of involvement in an armed assault on a bank in the settlement of Sunzha, had died at the police station during interrogation. According to the MIA, during a search of his house, grenades were found; while his death could be caused by a heart attack.

Mr Sultygov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that Daliev's relatives treat the accident as a murder and intend to submit applications to the Prosecutor's Office, the MIA and the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF). Besides, they prepare complaints to these agencies about the torture of Daliev's wife, Marem Tochieva.

According to Sultygov, who had received information from relatives, after the death of her husband, Marem Tochieva was summoned to the police to testify about the assault on the bank. The interrogation lasted for several hours; Tochieva was forced to confess about her involvement in the crime; and then, they began torturing her, Sultygov said.

"They put a bag over Tochieva's head and began clapping her face; however, she continued denying her guilt. Then, they moved her to Nazran, where she was tortured with electric current and beaten up. Realizing that they wouldn't break Tochieva, they offered her a deal: she confesses of the crime and goes to jail for two years; then, they make a passport for her and take abroad. When Tochieva refused, she was released," Sultygov quoted the relatives, adding that Tochieva had undergone medical examination and fixed the traces of beatings in order to submit applications.
