In January-March 2012, 258 persons fell victim to armed conflict in Northern Caucasus

During the period from January 1 to March 31, 2012, at least 258 people were affected by the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus: 163 persons perished and 95 others were wounded. These are the results of calculations, made by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from open sources.

The list of 163 casualties includes 24 civilians, 57 law enforcers and other power agents, and 82 persons, involved, according to law enforcement bodies, in the armed underground.

The list of 95 wounded persons includes 11 civilians, 81 power agents and three individuals involved in illegal armed formations (IAFs).

In the first quarter of 2012, the "hottest" area of Northern Caucasus was Dagestan, where from January 1 to March 31, at least 116 people fell victim to the armed conflict, including 83 lost and 33 wounded persons.

The runner-up is Chechnya, where the count of victims of the armed conflict made at least 78 persons, including 36 killed and 42 wounded persons.

Then goes Kabardino-Balkaria – at least 43 people suffered there, including 32 casualties and at least 11 wounded persons.

In the territory of Ingushetia, in the first quarter of 2012, at least 16 persons fell victim to the armed conflict, including nine lost and seven wounded persons.

In the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania, in January, February and March 2012, at least four people suffered from the ongoing armed conflict in Northern Caucasus conflict; two of them were killed.

In the Stavropol Territory, at least one person fell victim to the armed conflict – on February 13 in Pyatigorsk a car explosion killed Kurman Ismailov, Deputy Mufti of the Stavropol Territory.

In the reporting period, there were no victims in the territory of Karachay-Cherkessia.

In 2011, under the estimates of the "Caucasian Knot", at least 1378 people fell victim to the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus, of whom 750 people were killed and 628 more were wounded. Among the 750 casualties, there were 384 persons declared to be militants; 190 law enforcers and 176 civilians.
