About the Author

Georgy Anchabadze was born in 1949 in Tbilisi. On graduating from the Department of Oriental Studies of Tbilisi State University he entered the Institute of History, Archaeology and Ethnography of the Academy of Sciences of Georgia as a post-graduate student. In 1975 he maintained his thesis for a Master's Degree and in 1990 the Doctor's Degree was conferred to him. Principal works of G.Anchabadze deal with the history of the peoples of Georgia and the Caucasus since olden times up to our days. He also investigates a question of military history and cultural-historical relations of the Caucasus.

At present G.Anchabadze is a leading scientific worker of the Institute of History and Ethnology of the Academy of Sciences of Georgia.

  • Rights defenders give number of kidnapped people in Chechnya

    At least 80 residents of Chechnya have been kidnapped after a car with a DUSTUM license plate was set on fire; volunteers have identified the names of a number of them. In the village of Starye Atagi, Urus-Martan District, about 50 members of the Saif-Islam Elmurzaev family, suspected of setting the above car on fire, have been kidnapped; and about 30 people have been kidnapped in the Shali District, the "Memorial" Centre for Human Rights Defence (CHRD)* has reported.
