Wish for peace deleted from the official May Day greetings in Sochi

On May 1, mass events were organized in all Sochi districts under the slogan "Spring and Labour Day", the city administration has informed. However, this time, the word "peace", which traditionally was part of the holiday slogan, was not mentioned.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in 2023, there was no festive procession on May 1 in Sochi, which the authorities explained by security measures.

The press service of the Sochi Mayoralty has also notes that the main accent in the May Day celebration is on the upcoming Victory Day on May 9.

Sochi townspeople have noticed that from all the slogans and congratulations on May 1, the word "peace" disappeared. Veronica, a supporter of the Communist Party, has pointed out the fundamental difference from the festive processions of "those years", when people carried banners with the main slogan of the international workers' movement: "Peace, Labour, May".

Nikolai, a Sochi resident, has noted that the word "peace" disappeared from the slogan of the May Day holiday even before 2022, when the Russian special military operation (SMO) in Ukraine was launched. He lamented that many young people don't know the meaning of the holiday at all, since it was "virtually erased from the historical memory and the idea of the international workers' solidarity was replaced by the 'spring holiday'."

Teenagers treat the holiday, as stated, simply a "spring holiday." At the same time, older Sochi residents have noted that they congratulate each other in social networks, sending images of old Soviet postcards with the slogan: "Peace, Labour, May".
