Georgia: 70 families cut off from outside world by landslides

Landslides caused by a heavy rainfall have blocked the road to a village in the Lanchkhuti District of Georgia, where 40 families live, and to a village in the Ozurgeti District, inhabited by 30 families.

On September 22, landslides came down after heavy rains in the Khelvachauri and Kobuleti Districts of Adjara, as a result of which residential buildings were destroyed, bridges were damaged and roads were filled up. In Batumi, after heavy rains, streets and house ground floors were flooded. Townspeople treated the poor storm water pipes as the reason for flooding, and complained about rescuers' bad work.

A landslide has blocked the road to the Natanebi village of the Ozurgeti municipality; more than 30 families there are left without communication with the outside world, the "Rustavi-2" TV Channel has reported.

In Kakheti, a severe hail destroyed vineyards in several villages and damaged local residents' houses.

In Kobuleti, after heavy rains, landslides happened again; 15 families were evacuated from the dangerous area, the "Adjara TV" has reported.

In Batumi, water flooded ground floors of residential buildings; more than 300 families have suffered.
